There's a reason- This drug has a the shortest half life of any of the antidepressants out there. This drug was perscribed for stress and mild depression. I was also severely nauseous all those days.Patients with these diagnoses were systematically excluded from many clinical studies during venlafaxine's premarketing testing. Before I went on effexor, I was extremely depressed and way too thin. This is my true experience after 2 weeks and sofar I have only seen positive effects in my life of effexor. I had been without major depression or anxiety for a considerable period of time. I now take 225mg in the am and mostly just have yawning spells and symptoms that seem to be related to my hormonal cycle: sweating, hot flashes, increased night sweats (I've always had them), blemishes, and itchy scalp with some folliculitis. Also effexor affected my vision so another reason I avoided alchohol. A year later, I still have withdrawal effects from it. In my job I recently was written up for falling asleep in one of the classes I help instruct for the government. it's about giving your body the chance to slowly adapt and change back to it's old method of functioning - since at the moment everything only makes physiological sense with mg of Effexor present. By missing out days as a method of 'weaning' you are actually rocking the levels of Effexor up and down in your body like a roller-coaster. I kept wanting to take it just to make the withdrawl symptoms stop! I had a lot of anxiety and strange thoughts like "what if I drove off of this hill"!! Not that I would have done it but these things never entered my mind prior to taking Effexor. (I figure if I'm asleep, I won't feel it if I do become queasy. Lost the suicidal thoughts very quickly. The only thing I have noticed about the Effexor was just recently - I stay unbelievable hot, and my husband says he has noticed that I am "wired". Bad dreams, racing thoughts, shaking/trembling and weakness all over, particularly in one of my arms, headache around eyes, dry mouth at times. The effexor makes me tired, no motivation, some constipation. Use Effexor with caution if you've recently had a heart attack, suffer from heart failure, or have an overactive thyroid gland. The one major side effect I have had is always being sleepy.
